Wētā Workshop ready to ‘Do Some Good’ at Ōwhiro Bay School

Wētā Workshop is teaming up with the Vulnerable Support Charitable Trust ‘Do Some Good’ initiative to support families in need from Ōwhiro Bay School. The partnership will enable regular food deliveries for their community pātaka, as well as opportunities for volunteer days throughout the year.

Wētā Workshop CEO and Chief Operating Officer David Wilks says it’s important for businesses to be involved in their local communities, and the initiative aligns perfectly with our values. “We’re thrilled to be able to make a real, tangible difference for local Wellington families, and looking forward to working with Ōwhiro Bay School and the Vulnerable Support Charitable Trust to share our Wētā Workshop magic.”

“We’re looking forward to our volunteer days where we hope to share some creative inspiration with the school whānau,” says Wetā Workshop Co-founder Tania Rodger.

Ōwhiro Bay School was established in 1930 and is one of Wellington’s smaller ‘country-style’ schools on the South Coast, with more than 90 students from Year 0 to 6.

School Principal Cilla Scott says it’s tough out there at the moment, and the support definitely helps to take the pressure off our families.

“It’s fantastic to have Wētā Workshop on board and we can’t wait to see what will happen on our volunteer days when we have their wonderful crew in to help, the hardest part is deciding which project to tackle,” she adds.

Do Some Good is an initiative of the Vulnerable Support Charitable Trust and started with one school in Wainuiomata in 2017. It now supports 16 schools in the wider Wellington region from Porirua to Ōwhiro Bay.

Vulnerable Support Charitable Trust Operations Manager Leigh Keown says they’ve seen an increase in demand for community support from many of the schools they work with.

“It's been incredible to work with partners like Wētā Workshop and see Do Some Good continue to have impact and grow across the region.”
