In Apartment 7A, down-on-her-luck aspiring dancer Terry Gionoffrio (Julia Garner) moves into the Bramford — only to become entangled with the coven leaders who inhabit her luxurious New York City apartment building. Wētā Workshop was tasked with bringing a certain sparkle to the supernatural goings-on in this 2024 horror from director Natalie Erika James, in which the devil is as much in the plot as it is in the detail.

Our costume team had the performer’s body scanned and turned into a mannequin, then began building a creature suit out of a dark velvet that was specially dyed to resemble a beautiful kind of decay akin to rotting fruit. A foam under structure was incorporated beneath the velvet to accentuate the ribs, hips, and horns, before rhinestones were carefully planned and individually applied by hand to emphasize high points and shadows, wounds and would-be wings. At one point, as many as 10 people were huddled around this costume applying rhinestones to cover seams and add its finishing touches. The result was a full body suit covered in over 400,000 rhinestones and glass beads.
