The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers (2002) marked a highly anticipated return to director Peter Jackson’s epic high-fantasy series, continuing the story of Frodo and the now scattered Fellowship as they work to overcome the forces of Sauron. The film takes fans on a journey through Ent-filled forests, Rohan’s capital of Edoras and the legendary hold, Helm’s Deep.
Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the work of Richard Taylor and Wētā Workshop was recognised at the Academy Awards, the British Academy Film Awards, Golden Globes and Saturn Awards, with Wētā Workshop awarded Best Costume Design at the 2003 British Academy Film & TV and Saturn Awards.
In a ground-breaking move at the time, the films were shot concurrently across New Zealand. Wētā Workshop created tens of thousands of pieces of armour, prosthetics, miniatures and weaponry — from hand-crafted Elven blades to fearsome Orc battle axes.
