Bringing forth the visceral grandeur of the Warhammer universe

Warhammer 40,000, the wildly popular tabletop game with miniature figurines set in a dystopian universe, has enchanted players for decades since its release in 1987. Set in the 41st Millennium, hand-painted models of warriors go into battle among aliens and supernatural creatures across innumerable realms. In 2024, Wētā Workshop collaborated with Games Workshop to help realise some of the franchise’s iconic figures as 1:6 scale statues.

“Wētā Workshop and Games Workshop have a history of, and dedication to, crafting narratives, and a shared passion for epic storytelling in a fantastical setting,” says Jules German, creative director of consumer products at Wētā Workshop. “They both have respectfully forged paths through thick and thin to redefine what is possible in the fantasy medium and to expand imaginary universes beyond what was originally dreamt possible.”

For Jules, it’s a meeting of minds that has been decades in the making. “There are a handful of stories, legends and IPs that become so foundational they represent a bedrock of sorts. Warhammer 40,000, for so many of us here at Wētā Workshop, is one of them,” he says. “It is never a task accepted lightly to portray characters beloved by many. We have a duty and a privilege to portray them with respect and reverence, and it is our hope they are received as they are intended — a love letter to truly great characters.”

Lieutenant Titus

1:6 scale statue

A horde of Xenos, a sentient extraterrestrial species, descend upon the galaxy-spanning interstellar human empire known as the Imperium of Man. Lieutenant Titus of the Ultramarines, a fearsome warrior and devoted servant of the Emperor of Mankind, wields a powerful bolt pistol and mighty chainsword — a defender against the relentless Tyranid onslaught. A vanquished insect-like Hormagaunt, armed with razor-sharp scything talons, lays at his feet.

Immaculately sculpted and made of high-quality polystone, this feature-rich statue by Wētā Workshop renders the formidable champion with his distinctive heraldry, including his battle-scarred Power Armor, and features a swappable LED light-up helmet.

“It was important to us that we depicted him as a tough veteran of multiple campaigns, a highly disciplined and capable stalwart of military precision and unfaltering loyalty to his brotherhood and his mission,” says Jules. “We wanted to showcase his determination and brutality in his posture, his presence as a leader and a champion. Titus represents the embodiment of a veteran warrior in a war of attrition, never faltering and never surrendering.”

Abaddon the Despoiler

1:6 scale statue

One of Warhammer 40,000’s most iconic antagonists, Abaddon the Despoiler strikes terror as a harbinger of destruction, a living symbol of relentless chaos with his Daemon sword Drach’nyen raised proudly above the battlefield and the skulls of his enemies mounted upon his mantle.

“We wanted to show Abaddon as the brutal tyrant he is, full of malice and rage but still in control of his significant intellect,” explains Jules. “Abaddon is an accomplished military tactician possessing a supreme intelligence while also being a brutal thug and a violent lead-from-the-front war master. We wanted to capture him in a moment of victory on the battlefield after defeating the enemy but not overcome by emotion.”

From the intricately textured surfaces of his baroque Terminator Armor to the malevolent gleam in his eyes, every aspect of Abaddon was sculpted with painstaking attention to detail before being cast in high-quality polystone and hand-painted by our team to ensure everything down to the smallest rivet was faithfully rendered.

In the world of Warhammer 40,000, Abaddon and his armour are 10,000 years old, a history reflected in the layers of damage and scars from previous campaigns — the story of his crusade through the ages.
