Interact with cool stuff from our many departments, catch our artists at work and discover how we’ve grown into the award-winning company you see today.
While you’re here, you’ll have ample time to visit the Wētā Cave, a favourite destination for film enthusiasts guarded by our Cave Trolls. Buy authentic Wētā Workshop-designed collectibles, prop replicas, movie memorabilia and much more.
Then finally, enjoy a delicious lunch on the waterfront at Wellington-favourite, Karaka Café, as part of your half-day experience. There you will finish your journey with a two-course lunch featuring dishes unique to Aotearoa, New Zealand. Vegan options available.

Our guided transfers depart from 145 Wakefield Street, Wellington, in the city centre. Get directions here.
Yes and no! Your guide will let you know when you can use your camera. There are certain rooms of our tour space where photography is permitted, however there are some rooms where we ask for you to not take photographs. Wētā Workshop is an active workshop and photography is strictly prohibited in certain areas due to production requirements.
Our tours do give you an exclusive look into the workshop through multiple viewing windows, getting you as close to the magic as possible!
Wētā Workshop is a fully operational workshop, and there are some hazards that make entering our workspace unsafe. Also, because we’re working our movie magic behind the scenes, we’re unable to take you onto the workshop floor itself.
Our tours do give you an exclusive look into the workshop through multiple viewing windows, getting you as close to the magic as possible!
Absolutely—children love the magic of
movies! Though just a heads up–some images on our tour do showcase horror
films.
Our tours are wheelchair accessible. We also have accessible bathrooms and mobility parking spaces available. Our shuttle has room to bring a wheelchair however we do not currently have a chairlift.

rooms.
